From the Principal

Welcome to Douglas School!

It is my pleasure and honor to be the leader of this collaborative educational experience. Douglas School is a community where we focus on love of learning, problem solving, thinking critically and developing empathy. Graduates have a solid foundation of social justice—they understand that there are less fortunate people both locally and globally and that they, as students, can actively affect change in the world.

We understand that kids aren't just short adults and therefore, our classrooms are centers of discovery, creativity, and social interaction where teachers help children think deeply and communicate their thoughts about questions that matter. We want students to feel known and cared about and when problems arise, we use a collaborative problem solving approach based in listening and understanding what children see as obstacles and work together to orchestrate solutions.

It is our hope that children leave Douglas feeling joyful, valued, and brave; that they are full of wonder, and have a deep sense of pride. We hope that they ask complex questions, challenge the status quo, and that they show the initiative, innovation and critical thinking needed to forge their own path in our ever shifting future.

We look forward to you joining us on our journey,

Dr. Christopher Whitbeck
Principal
